New sheets start on target. You can also print an easier one or a harder one.

Two minutes at home
- Ask
- What is 1 more than 14? How do you know without counting from 1?
- Play
- Build a tower of bricks. Say how many, add one more, and say the new number before counting.
Common mistakes and how to help
Wrote 1 less instead of 1 more, as in 13 for 1 more than 14.
Try this: Build a tower of bricks together. "1 more" means one more brick on top: is the tower taller or shorter?
Wrote the same number: they may not have added the one more yet.
Try this: Put 6 spoons in a row and add one more. Count them again: are there still 6?
The digits are the wrong way round, as in 51 for 15. "Fifteen" says the 5 first, but we write the 1 first.
Try this: Say "fifteen is ten and five" and write the 1 for the ten first, then the 5.
Stuck at a new ten, as in 110 or 2 for 1 more than 19: the next ten may not be secure yet.
Try this: Make 19 with a full ten frame (or egg box) and 9 more. Add one more: now there are two full tens, 20.
The answer is a long way off: the order of the numbers to 20 may not be secure yet.
Try this: Point to a number on a number track and ask what comes next. Check by counting on one.
